Extensive collection of aero engines, aircraft, rockets and flight material. The site in which the museum currently stands was once a former RAF airfield, and has been declared of historic importance by Historic Scotland.

The site was also previously used as a World War One airship station, housing the airship R34 as it set off on its record setting first two-way transatlantic flight.

Founded in 1955, the city’s childhood museum is a favorite with both children and adults. Five public galleries exist displaying various exhibits including toys, dolls, games, books, displays about the baby, food & drink, heath, school days and much more. Temporary exhibits are presented throughout the year.

The museum was the first in the world to be fully devoted to childhood, and is commonly described as the “noisiest museum in the world”.

THE WRITERS’ MUSEUM

Situated in the historic Lady Stair’s House (built 1622). The writers’ museum is unique to Scotland. The museum is dedicated solely to the lives and work of Scotland’s greatest litery figures. Those included are Robert Burns, Sir Walter Scott and Robert Louis Stevenson. A rare collection of memorabilia and manuscript are permanently on show.

Other prominent Scottish writers are represented in the museum’s regular program of temporary exhibitions.

THE QUEENSFERRY MUSEUM
Council Office, High Street, South Queensferry

This local museum contains information on the former Burgh of South Queensferry (five miles North of Edinburgh). Housed in the Council Chambers the museum tells the fascinating story of the building of the Forth Rail Bridge and Forth Road Bridge and gives unique views of both of them.

Displays also exist on the development of the Burgh, the tradition of Burry Man, aspects and leisure in South Queensferry and the natural history that the Forth has to offer.
